This painting is inspired by playing cards and my fascination with Alice in Wonderland. Playing cards first appeared in Europe around 1377. Although the Queen was not originally included in the deck, she was added not long after. The Queen comes behind the King in value when playing cards. However, in these times of equal rights, both the King and the Queen are placed on the same card, making them equal value.
This painting can be hung either way, with the King upside-down or the Queen upside-down. Personally I prefer the Queen side up.
