This print shows a ballarina and a cow jumping over the moon printed over the text from a nursery rhyme called Open Shut Them.  Ballet originated in the Italian Renaissance courts of the 15th century as performance art and is still popular today. Whilst other physical pursuits were not considered appropriate for woman, ballet is something that woman have always excelled at. The cow jumping over the moon represents the achievement of hopes and dreams despite the odds.

This print is part of a larger body of work that examines the gender values that are imparted onto children through popular nursery rhymes and fairy tales. Each print is hand-made and consists of pink text from a nursery rhyme with a screen printed image over the top. The seemingly unrelated image gives new meaning to the underlying text. These old fashioned nursery rhymes are re-examined through a feminist lens.

This inspiring print would be perfect for a child’s room, whether they be young or old. Each print is hand-made and is unique, as the alignment varies slightly. However, the quality, size and colour of each print remains consistent.
