Reach for the stars is a popular refrain that originated from a Latin poem written between 29 and 19 BC. It means the pursuit of difficult things by setting high goals. It’s something we tell our children to encourage them to have inspirational goals.

Traditionally girls were not encouraged to have aspirations beyond marriage and motherhood. Even now many jobs and opportunities remain closed or limited for women. However, girls should be encouraged to aspire to the same heights and achievements as men.

In this image the girl is reaching for a star which is also a sheriff’s badge. The badge represents positions of power within society and government which are still more frequently held by men. I hope this print encourages girls to aspire to goals and carers outside of those traditionally assigned to women.
