I've always been interested in fairy tales and nursery rhymes and what they tell us about gender roles. In this contemporary depiction of Snow White there are no ostentatious details such as gold crowns or drapery, which are so often associated with traditional fairy tale imagery.
Whilst Snow White usually sleeps soundly until awoken from a non consensual kiss from Prince Charming, this wily Snow White holds a danger in her hand to protect herself from unwanted advances.
The pattern of the dress is achieved through a screen printing process done in acrylic paint. The female figure has been painted over the top in oil paint. It is professionally framed in Tasmanian oak.
