We are not used to seeing guns in the hands of females, even through arguably women need protection more than men. We are however, very familiar seeing men with gun on television. Movies often portray men with guns. Whilst I’m anti-guns, they do represent power and control for many.
In the painting the toy gun is in the hands of a girl, as she plays the good cop. She is the hero and saviour. It’s about exploring existing gender roles and expanding the possibilities of what a woman can be.
