About the Artist

I'm a Melbourne-based figurative artist. I tell stories about women through art. My artworks explore the portrayal of womanhood in popular culture. My goal is to create art with a feminist sensibility that is both feminine and fashion-inspired.

My current series of paintings, titled "Contained," explores women and the spaces they inhabit. The canvases depict women who are sitting, squatting, or folded. Their whole figure is captured within the borders of the canvas as a metaphor for society trying to control, restrain and measure women. However, each figure makes the space her own.

I am drawn to repetition and pattern, and often incorporate these elements into my work, either through mark-making, printing, or stencils. I like the juxtaposition of the flat decorative elements against the more realistic portrayals of the faces and hands. I paint the skin tones of the figures in oil paint, which allows me to mix colours on the canvas when painting wet on wet.

I have exhibited widely across Australia, including numerous solo exhibitions at venues in Melbourne and Sydney. Currently, I am represented by two galleries: Art to Art (Victoria) and Gallery Alchemy (NSW).

I am an award-winning artist, having won two art prizes and been shortlisted for many prestigious awards such as the Omnia Art Prize, Marie Ellis Drawing Prize, Lethbridge 10,000 Small-Scale Art Award, Hornsby Art Prize, Agendo Award, and the Metro Art Prize.

I have been featured in Yen Magazine, Desktop Magazine, Art Lovers Australia, and others. My artwork is included in the art collection of former Victorian Premier Jeff Kennett, Standard Chartered Bank, Albert Park College, and the McAuley Community Services for Women.

In 2023, I undertook a dream artist residency in France, which you can read about on the Artist Blog.  In 2019, I completed a Graduate Certificate of Visual Arts at the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA). Before that, I completed a Diploma of Visual Arts at Box Hill Institute. I work out of my home studio in the suburbs of Melbourne, Australia, where I live with my husband, two sons and my dog.
